Promised Land: Competing Visions of Agrarian Reform

Peter M. Rosset and Raj Patel, Editors (November, 2006)

There is a great need for agrarian reform in many developing countries, strongly resisted by developing country elites. Recognizing the need, the World Bank has promoted "market led" agrarian reform. Another major force for reform has been poor rural people and their supporters. This book is written from their perspective.  The book provides an overview of the issues, including a critique of the World Bank's approach as well as case studies of seven countries.  The book is available for sale, and on-line.  For more information see the foreword by Carmen Diana Deere, and the table of contents (pdf files).
