Elizabeth Whelan

Elizabeth Whelan works at the Congressional Hunger Center as Associate Director of the Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program. Prior to her time at the Congressional Hunger Center, Elizabeth was a Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellow. Before working at CHC she volunteered in rural Haiti for Partners in Health, an international public health organization whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. She spent the majority of her time working on a hospital program for children with severe malnutrition.

Elizabeth graduated from the University of Virginia with high honors in 2003. She is a free-lance photographer who has documented aspects of various anti-poverty programs and organizations such as Catholic Relief Services (Mali), Akshaya Patra Foundation (India), World Food Programme (Cambodia), Action Against Hunger (India), Bread for the World (domestic), and Partners in Health (Haiti). Her work has been shown in various venues in Boston, Washington D.C., New York and Chicago.
