World Hunger Education Service is looking for a part time consultant to work with us on hunger issues.

World Hunger Education Service of Washington, DC, which is engaged in the service of educating the public about hunger through its primary vehicle – the worldhunger.org website – seeks the part-time professional consulting services to research, draft, edit and help to post articles about global hunger news, in working collaboration with our all-volunteer directors on the Board. World Hunger Education Service’s mission is to provide timely educational information about the causes of world hunger and the impacts these causes are having on the world.

For the past 41 years, since its founding in 1976, the mission of World Hunger Education Service is to undertake programs, including Hunger Notes, which informs the community of people interested in issues of hunger and poverty, the public, and policymakers, about the causes, extent, and efforts to end hunger and poverty in the United States and the world.
It is the intent of the World Hunger Education Service (WHES) to engage a consultant to upload and find materials on a weekly basis for the website – WorldHunger.org and for the corresponding social media sites – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Position: 25-50% time
Based in: Remote, work from home
Reports to: WHES Board of Directors
Timeframe: Six months, renewable

Consultancy description:
The consultant will work with WHES’s Board to post articles, videos, photos, that educate the public about hunger in the US and world-wide. The article content should relate to hunger, malnutrition, food security, food insecurity, and similar related terms. Information sources are to be varied – using a variety of reliable sources, however the consultant can draw upon RSS feeds on the topic to populate the website. Articles should reflect the spirit and the mission of WHES as stated above. Website and social media materials should follow guidance for posting as developed by the Board.

The consultant will also help find articles and digital materials that correspond to special annual events, conferences, and notable achievements.

The consultant will be expected to promote external engagement, participating in World Food Day and similar events, Hunger, Earth, and things like that. The consultant will be asked to be proactive in engaging external stakeholders.

The consultant will submit a brief notes log of uploaded and posted ‘products’ to a designated Board member each month. Compensation will be commensurate with work experience. Consultant will invoice WHES monthly with the copy of log. Invoices will be paid upon receipt via check, but no later than within 2 weeks upon receipt of the invoice. The terms of reference and performance will be reviewed after a two-month trial period.

Consultancy Requirements
1. The consultant will be able to scan international information sources, including news feeds, magazines, organizational websites, conferences, webcasts, email, etc, to identify candidate articles to be included on the Worldhunger website

2. The consultant will have good judgement and understanding of international nutrition and food problems associated with hunger and poverty, in order to select and prepare high quality, appropriate articles for publication;

The consultant will have excellent written English skills to ensure high editorial quality of contents.

3. The consultant will have good communication skills to interact with the WHES Board of Directors.

4. The consultant will have integrity and agrees that he or she will not at any time or in any manner, either directly or indirectly, divulge, disclose, or communicate any proprietary organizational information to any third party without the prior written consent of World Hunger Education Service.

Preferred Skills
1. The consultant should be able to formulate and provide World Hunger Education Service with information, suggestions, and recommendations regarding World Hunger Education Service’s operations, of which she has knowledge, that will be of benefit to World Hunger Education Service.

2. Working proficiency in the use of MS Word, email and ability to work within an online WordPress platform.
